New Online Encyclopedia on Environment Issues Added

The Encyclopedia of Environment and Society, a 5 volume set, has been added to the growing number of electronic reference sources in Axe Library. This set is unique in its emphasis on the intersection of environment and society. While explaining topics in a science point of view, the authors relate the issues to resulting society problems and challenges. In addition to searching by topic, the “Reader’s Guide” groups topics in fourteen broad categories such as agriculture, animals, biology and chemistry, climate, conservation and ecology . . .people, politics, pollution, and society. Clustered under each category are the many individual topics. Pollution includes 78 topics such as Agent Orange, acid rain, Alaska pipeline, Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, nitrogen oxides, oil spills, urbanization and wastewater.

The Encyclopedia of Environment and Society would be a good starting point for papers and discussions on the overall topic of the environment. Additional readings are suggested at the end of each entry. The encyclopedia can be found in the Online Catalog or on the List of Databases by Title.
