Women’s History Month

March is National Women’s History Month. Axe Library is celebrating Women’s History Month by creating a display about Amelia Earhart and the influence she has had on aviation and on women. Amelia Earhart was born July 24, 1897 in Atchison, Kansas. During an attempt to fly around the world, she disappeared in the Pacific Ocean somewhere near Howland Island. She set many flight records, wrote a book about her flying experiences, and was the first woman to be awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.

There are a variety of books and scans of photographs on display, as well as colorful bookmarks with photographs and trivia about Amelia Earhart. Please feel free to come by and view the display and take a bookmark.

Here are a few websites about women’s history and Amelia Earhart:

If you have any questions or comments about the display or the library’s services and resources, please do not hesitate to contact the library at 620-235-4894.
