In a letter which accompanied the donation, Lynn K. Intrater, trustee of the Goldberg Family Foundation, said “My father, Stanley Goldberg was born and raised in Pittsburg...and moved up to Kansas City in 1947. Although I never had the opportunity to visit the city with him, I did go down and see Pittsburg for myself. I saw his homes and the locations of my grandparents’ (Lewis and Bessie Goldberg) store, The Leader on Broadway…. My dad always spoke so fondly of growing up in Pittsburg and from my short visit; I got the sense of what a warm friendly community it is. So, in essence, we would like to give something back….Our gift comes to you in memory of Lewis, Bessie and Stanley Goldberg.” Friends of Axe is very grateful for the funds as well as for Ms Intrater’s kind letter. The items will be cataloged and in the library collection by October, 2006.
